Gurriny Yealamucka Research Agreement - community based research collaboration

26 August 2014

James Cook University has entered into a research agreement with Gurriny Yealamucka Health Service, based in Yarrabah, south of Cairns.

Gurriny Yealamucka has recently made the transition to community control of its health services and the Centre for Chronic Diease Prevention has provided funding to support intensive community based chronic disease management.

An Advanced Health Worker has been engaged with this funding and she will  recruit  patients who can participate in studies identifying effective health risk reduction through case management and lifestyle changes. The health worker will also maintain a  clinical work load undertaking health checks and assisting patients with self management of their conditions.
